IMGH Chapter 48
by syl_beePlaying It Real — Could We?
The girl lowered her head shyly, and Jiang Yi was completely stunned!
How did this girl just go off-script without warning?
Having waited a long time without receiving any response from Jiang Yi, Chen Yuhe raised her head and looked at the dumbfounded man with a flustered, embarrassed expression.
Chen Yuhe’s eyes seemed to carry an endless kind of magic — with just one glance from her, Jiang Yi found himself utterly unable to say the words of refusal.
Jiang Yi struggled for a long moment before finally managing to pull himself free from Chen Yuhe’s captivating gaze.
“Yu… Yuhe… that’s not what Xuan Xuan told me!” Jiang Yi was already stumbling over his words. It was the first time a girl had confessed to him so directly, and also the first time he had to reject one — the surprise mixed with guilt left him completely at a loss.
“I know. Xuan Xuan asked me to play along with your act!” Chen Yuhe lowered her head and twisted her fingers together, her coy and fidgety little-girl manner making her look all the more endearingly shy.
Jiang Yi let out a quiet breath of relief. At least this girl still remembered what this was all about.
His heart had just settled when he picked up his coffee cup and brought it to his lips.
Chen Yuhe spoke again, “But now I want to make it real — why don’t we actually start dating?”
Pfft!
Jiang Yi couldn’t hold it back — the coffee he had just sipped came spraying right out.
Was she serious? How could such an exceptional girl be blind enough to fall for someone like him? Where was the justice in this world?
Jiang Yi groaned inwardly and hastily began putting himself down. “Listen… listen to me! I don’t have a steady job, I’m not good-looking, and I have a terrible temper! There’s no future in being with me!”
Chen Yuhe looked at Jiang Yi with complete sincerity and said earnestly, “I just like you! If you don’t have a job, I’ll support you. If you’re not handsome, that just means I feel secure. If you have a bad temper, that just means you have backbone!”
Without giving him a chance to argue, Chen Yuhe snatched his phone off the table and entered her number into his contacts.
“You’re my boyfriend now. You have to call me every day from now on!”
Chen Yuhe domineeringly slapped her label onto the man who was still in a daze. Staring at him without blinking, her eyes full of tender affection, Jiang Yi felt genuinely uncomfortable under that gaze and said dryly, “Yuhe, stop joking. We’re not right for each other!”
“I’m not joking!” Chen Yuhe chewed on her bubble tea straw and blinked at Jiang Yi, saying in all seriousness, “Do you believe in love at first sight? That’s exactly how I feel about you!”
Chen Yuhe’s words left Jiang Yi with no argument. Hadn’t he himself fallen for Qiu Rui at first sight?
He turned his head slightly to look at Qiu Rui. The male ghost wore a cold, gloating smirk on his face, and the words that followed were even more infuriating.
“Hey, this girl is so wonderful. Someone like you — what exactly are you being picky about?”
Jiang Yi’s face darkened, his black eyes tangled with some nameless emotion.
Qiu Rui saw heartache in that darkness, and disappointment — but no retreat, and no regret.
Idiot! Qiu Rui cried out silently deep within, as a quiet bitterness began to stir…
“Jiang Yi, what’s wrong?” Chen Yuhe looked at him with suspicion, eyeing his gloomy expression.
Jiang Yi came back to himself and said lightly, “Nothing. It’s getting late — let me walk you home.”
Noticing that something was off with Jiang Yi’s expression, Chen Yuhe felt reluctant to part with him deep down, but she still nodded obediently.
“My place isn’t far from here. I can get home on my own!”
With that, Chen Yuhe ran off cheerfully. After a few steps she stopped, turned back toward Jiang Yi, and made a phone call gesture with her hand.
“Jiang Yi, I’ll be waiting for your call tonight!”
Her gentle figure disappeared from sight. Jiang Yi slumped back against the backrest of the sofa, deflated.
How did things end up like this?
