    Sorry, I Won’t Let Go

Being looked down upon by Qiu Rui, Chen Yuhe immediately felt every hair on her body stand on end. The boss was acting so strange today!

“Chairman Qiu, is something the matter?” Chen Yuhe forced herself to appear calm, but her slightly trembling voice still betrayed the panic in her heart. Chairman Qiu was so terrifying today.

“Miss Chen, regarding what you said that day — I’m sorry, but I can’t do it.”

Under Qiu Rui’s sharp, piercing gaze, Chen Yuhe’s mind went blank. She replied with a trembling voice, “Chairman Qiu, I don’t understand what you mean!”

    “Jiang Yi — I won’t let go.”

Qiu Rui’s jet-black eyes betrayed no ripple of emotion. His tone was cool and composed as usual, yet the overwhelming aura radiating from him made Chen Yuhe feel as though the air had suddenly turned ice-cold.

Chen Yuhe suddenly didn’t dare meet his gaze. She cast her eyes downward, not knowing how to respond.

“Miss Chen, I used to not understand my own heart, and I let slip someone I shouldn’t have. Now I’ve thought it through — I like Jiang Yi. So I don’t want you getting too close to him.”

Qiu Rui’s words were so blunt and direct that they left Chen Yuhe completely dumbfounded.

Had she been hearing things? Her boss had actually said something like that!

She had only been acting, for goodness’ sake! Her relationship with Jiang Yi was as clean and innocent as could be, so how had her boss gotten so deep into the role that he was treating her like some despicable homewrecker?!

She had truly brought this upon herself!

The blank, stunned expression on Chen Yuhe’s face irritated Qiu Rui considerably. He had made himself perfectly clear, yet this woman still showed no sign of the awareness she should have had.

Qiu Rui’s dark eyes turned black as ink, and he fixed Chen Yuhe with an unkind stare.

Crushed by the overwhelming pressure of his presence, Chen Yuhe found it hard to breathe. She hurriedly rushed to make her position clear. “Chairman Qiu, Chairman Qiu, you’ve misunderstood me!”

Her very soul trembled under that one look from Qiu Rui. “Chairman Qiu, I was just a bystander! I only stepped in occasionally to help. My relationship with Jiang Yi is purely platonic — cleaner than distilled water!”

“Miss Chen, if I recall correctly, you once said you liked Jiang Yi.” Clearly, Qiu Rui wasn’t buying Chen Yuhe’s explanation.

“Oh, Chairman Qiu, this really has nothing to do with me!” Chen Yuhe was so flustered she was nearly in tears. “Chairman Qiu, I’ll admit that at first I did have some feelings for Jiang Yi, but once I found out he liked you, I gave up any idea of pursuing him.”

“Then why did you say those things to me that day, and why did you ask me to make things clear with Jiang Yi?!”

Qiu Rui had been brooding over what had happened that day, and Chen Yuhe was beside herself with grievance. In the interest of self-preservation, she promptly shifted all the blame onto Jiang Yi.

“Chairman Qiu, I had no choice! Jiang Yi asked me to play along with his act. I didn’t agree to it at first — how could someone as decent as me do something so underhanded? But he pleaded with me desperately, and I could see how much he cared for you, so I…”

Chen Yuhe lowered her head, silently grieving for Jiang Yi a hundred times over in her heart.

So it had all been carefully orchestrated by Jiang Yi. Qiu Rui was so furious that his handsome face contorted, icy frost written all over it. Chen Yuhe no longer dared to stay by his side. She was just trying to figure out how to make her escape when Jiang Yi’s voice drifted out from the kitchen. “Yuhe, come help me for a second!”

Chen Yuhe felt as though she had been granted amnesty and was just about to dash toward the kitchen, when she caught sight of Qiu Rui’s dark, piercing gaze slicing toward her like a blade. Her legs went to jelly, and she cursed Jiang Yi eighty times over in her head.

Of all the moments to call her over — this was practically stabbing her again when she was already down!

Chen Yuhe froze on the spot, unsure whether to go or stay.

In the end, she gritted her teeth and bolted straight into the bathroom, locking the door firmly behind her.

Jiang Yi waited a good while without seeing Chen Yuhe appear. Assuming she hadn’t heard him, he raised his voice and called out again. “Yuhe, come give me a hand!”

Chen Yuhe’s dejected voice floated over from next door. “Jiang Yi, I’m in the bathroom!”

Sitting on the toilet, Chen Yuhe wiped the cold sweat from her forehead.

Her boss was absolutely terrifying. Had she known, she never would have played along!

After what felt like an eternity, the bathroom door quietly opened from the inside. A fluffy-haired head poked out, eyes scanning the surroundings cautiously.

Only after confirming there was no lurking danger did Chen Yuhe tiptoe out of the bathroom.

Jiang Yi watched the sneaky figure slip into the kitchen and laughed in spite of himself. “Yuhe, what are you — a thief?”

Chen Yuhe peered vigilantly toward the door for a moment. Seeing no sign of Qiu Rui, she finally let out a long breath of relief, and said with a miserable expression, “Jiang Yi, your wife is terrifying!”

Jiang Yi stared blankly at the still-shaken Chen Yuhe, bewildered. “My wife? Who?”

“Who else could it be!” Chen Yuhe jutted her chin in the direction of the bedroom.

“Rui’er? What did he do to you? Why are you acting like a mouse that’s spotted a cat?!”

“Your cat has had way too much vinegar. You’re on your own. That’s all I have to say — take care of yourself!”

Chen Yuhe’s cryptic words left Jiang Yi completely at a loss. He grabbed hold of her as she headed for the door and asked, “Yuhe, can you at least explain yourself?!”

Chen Yuhe’s nerves had just barely settled back into their rhythm when Jiang Yi grabbed her, and she instantly recoiled as though burned, shaking his arm off. The image of Qiu Rui’s razor-sharp gaze flashed through her mind, and Chen Yuhe cried out and stumbled back several steps, putting a safe distance between herself and Jiang Yi.

Jiang Yi was utterly speechless at Chen Yuhe’s dramatic reaction. “Little girl, what’s gotten into you?”

Chen Yuhe pursed her lips, feeling deeply aggrieved inside.

It was all Jiang Yi’s fault. If not for helping him, she never would have been misunderstood by her own boss.

She had successfully made Qiu Rui fall for Jiang Yi, and yet she — the one who had done all the work — was being mistaken for some wicked woman trying to steal another person’s husband.

Chen Yuhe lamented endlessly in her heart as thunderclaps seemed to crash through her mind.

Since Qiu Rui had already fallen for Jiang Yi, why hadn’t the formation been broken yet?
