R70 Chapter 15
Xie Yun’s Fraudulent Donation!
Yuan Ye’s expression instantly darkened, his gaze sharp as a knife, shooting straight toward Xie Yun.
He stepped forward, his voice low and powerful. “Xie Yun, you’d better think before you speak. Jianhua’s situation was your own choice—don’t push the responsibility onto others. Yunzhu has no obligation to pay for your decisions.”
Xie Yun felt somewhat breathless under Yuan Ye’s imposing manner, but he still refused to back down, saying through gritted teeth. “Yuan Ye, stop playing the good guy here! Everyone knows you have feelings for Wu Yunzhu! You’re helping her now just to curry favor with her!”
Hearing this, the surrounding villagers immediately began whispering among themselves, their gazes shifting back and forth between Yuan Ye and Wu Yunzhu, as if trying to read something from their expressions.
Wu Yunzhu coldly swept a glance at Xie Yun, the corners of her mouth curling into a mocking smile. “Xie Yun, besides making trouble unreasonably, what else can you do? Jianhua’s situation is your own responsibility—stop making a fool of yourself here.”
Xie Yun’s face turned alternately pale and flushed, his fists clenched tight, his nails nearly digging into his palms.
He glared at Wu Yunzhu, his voice trembling slightly. “Wu Yunzhu, you’re truly heartless! Jianhua is a life, after all—are you just going to watch him die?”
Wu Yunzhu’s gaze didn’t waver in the slightest, her tone still icy. “Xie Yun, I’ve said it before—Jianhua’s situation has nothing to do with me. If you really care about him, figure it out yourself instead of wasting time here.”
Xie Yun was thoroughly enraged by her attitude and suddenly rushed forward, as if intending to use force.
However, as soon as he took a step, Yuan Ye was already blocking Wu Yunzhu, his gaze like ice, his voice cold. “Xie Yun, just try to touch her.”
Xie Yun was intimidated by Yuan Ye’s presence, his footsteps involuntarily stopping.
He gritted his teeth but ultimately didn’t have the courage to take another step forward. He could only glare fiercely at Wu Yunzhu before turning and leaving with several villagers.
Watching Xie Yun’s figure gradually disappear from view, Wu Yunzhu let out a light breath, her gaze turning to Yuan Ye, her tone flat. “Thank you.”
Yuan Ye turned around, his gaze softening somewhat, saying in a low voice, “You don’t need to thank me. I just can’t stand seeing him bully you like that.”
Wu Yunzhu didn’t respond, only nodded slightly before turning and walking into the courtyard.
Yuan Ye stood at the doorway, watching her slender figure, complex emotions welling up in his heart.
A few days later, the rumors in the village didn’t die down with Xie Yun’s departure—instead, they intensified.
Cheng Yaoyao took the opportunity of helping Xie Yun raise money to widely proclaim her own kindness throughout the village, while simultaneously portraying Wu Yunzhu as a cold-blooded, vicious woman.
“Have you heard? Wu Yunzhu won’t even care for her own child—she truly has a heart of stone!”
“That’s right. Xie Yun is such an honest man, yet she’s driven him to desperation.”
“Cheng Yaoyao is truly kind, even helping Xie Yun raise money. She’s beautiful inside and out!”
These rumors and gossip spread like wildfire, yet Wu Yunzhu acted as if she hadn’t heard any of it.
“Yunzhu, rumors are flying everywhere in the village. Tell Dad, what exactly are you thinking?”
That evening, Wu Jianguo sat on a stool, troubled, feeling sad for his beautiful daughter in his heart.
It was all his fault. If only he had been more resolute back then, Yunzhu wouldn’t have married that bastard.
Now that bastard was twisting the truth and ruining his daughter’s reputation!
“I’ve already thought it through.”
Wu Yunzhu draped the coat in her hands over Wu Jianguo’s shoulders, speaking slowly.
“I’ll go to the hospital tomorrow morning. If two out of three things Xie Yun says are true, that would already be good.”
Sun Hongying was feeding the chickens and immediately looked at her upon hearing this. “Daughter, are you saying that Xie Yun is lying?”
“His son being sick is true, but these past few days, he and Cheng Yaoyao have been raising money all over the village, not even sparing the neighboring villages.”
Wu Yunzhu sneered coldly. “His son doesn’t even need surgery—where would he need so much money?”
Wu Jianguo’s heart skipped a beat. “You mean he’s committing donation fraud!”
Early the next morning, just as dawn was breaking, Wu Yunzhu packed her things and prepared to head to the town hospital.
She wore a simple coat, her hair casually tied back, no excess expression on her face—only a pair of eyes revealing calm and determination.
Wu Jianguo stood at the doorway, his brows tightly furrowed, his tone carrying some worry. “Yunzhu, are you really going to the hospital? Should I go with you?”
Wu Yunzhu shook her head, her tone calm. “Dad, you don’t need to go. I can handle this myself. Stay home and take care of yourself—don’t worry about me.”
Wu Jianguo wanted to say more, but seeing his daughter’s determined gaze, he could only sigh in the end and nod. “Then be careful. If anything happens, just call home.”
Wu Yunzhu acknowledged him and turned to walk out of the courtyard.
The morning air carried a hint of coolness, but her footsteps didn’t hesitate in the slightest.
The town hospital wasn’t large, and Wu Yunzhu quickly found Jianhua’s ward.
She stood at the doorway, looking through the glass window, and discovered Xie Yun sitting beside the hospital bed, his head lowered as if saying something to Jianhua.
Cheng Yaoyao stood to the side, holding a notebook, recording something from time to time.
Wu Yunzhu let out a cold laugh and pushed open the door to enter.
Hearing the movement, Xie Yun suddenly raised his head. Seeing it was Wu Yunzhu, his expression immediately turned ugly. “What are you doing here?”
Wu Yunzhu ignored him and walked straight to the hospital bed, lowering her head to look at Jianhua.
The child’s complexion was somewhat pale, but he didn’t look as serious as Xie Yun had claimed.
She raised her head, her gaze coldly sweeping over Xie Yun and Cheng Yaoyao, her tone calm. “I came to see Jianhua, and also to ask you—you’ve raised so much money, what exactly do you plan to use it for?”
Xie Yun’s expression changed, his voice carrying some panic. “You… what nonsense are you talking about? Jianhua needs surgery—we raised money to save his life!”
Wu Yunzhu let out a cold laugh and took out a hospital diagnostic report from her pocket, handing it to Xie Yun.
“This is Jianhua’s diagnostic report. It clearly states that he only has a common cold and fever—he doesn’t need surgery at all. You’ve raised so much money—what exactly do you want to do with it?”
Xie Yun’s face instantly turned pale. With trembling hands, he took the report, glanced at it, and was immediately struck as if by lightning.
Cheng Yaoyao also leaned over to look, her expression similarly turning ugly.
“This… this is impossible!” Xie Yun stammered. “The doctor clearly said Jianhua needed surgery!”
Wu Yunzhu looked at him coldly, her tone carrying a trace of mockery. “Xie Yun, stop acting. You and Cheng Yaoyao conspired to commit donation fraud—did you really think no one would know?”
