Han Yuancheng closed his phone and stared at the uninvited guest in the room, his sword-like brows tightly furrowed. “Don’t you know it’s rude to walk into someone’s room without knocking?”

The man lounging on the sofa with his legs crossed wore a roguish expression and smiled wickedly. “Chengcheng, you should use honorifics. What’s the matter? Did Qiu Rui never teach you?”

The man tapped his own temple with a look of sudden realization. “Oh, I forgot! He always indulged you, and you never thought much of me. But times have changed — I am now the head of the Qiu family and the chairman of Shengqiu International.”

Han Yuancheng’s gaze turned icy with contempt. “Qiu Chen, I feel it necessary to remind you — the head of the Qiu family is Qiu Rui, and the chairman of Shengqiu International is also Qiu Rui.”

Qiu Chen raised an eyebrow and laughed. “Qiu Rui is already a vegetable! How could the Qiu family possibly let a vegetable run things? Chengcheng, a bird chooses the tree it settles on, and a wise minister chooses the master he serves. I’m sure you understand that.”

“Qiu Chen, watch your words. Qiu Rui is not a vegetable — the doctors said there is still a chance he could wake up.”

“Chengcheng, wake up. Qiu Rui is never coming back.”

“Bullshit. You’re behind this. There’s no way Qiu Rui would suddenly become a vegetable out of nowhere unless you had something to do with it.”

Qiu Rui had always been in excellent health — it was impossible for him to become a vegetable overnight. It had to be Qiu Chen’s doing. Qiu Chen had long coveted the position of Qiu family head and the chairmanship of Shengqiu International, and had harbored ill intentions for some time, secretly resorting to all manner of underhanded tricks. Qiu Rui had remained on guard against him every step of the way, yet somehow still fell into his trap.

What Han Yuancheng couldn’t figure out was exactly what method Qiu Chen had used to reduce Qiu Rui to his current state — a living corpse. Although Han Yuancheng sensed that Qiu Chen was responsible, words alone were not proof. Without evidence, there was no way to expose his crimes.

“Chengcheng, you can eat the wrong food, but you can’t say the wrong thing.” Qiu Chen advanced toward Han Yuancheng step by step and brazenly reached out to wrap an arm around his waist, pulling him tightly against his chest.

“Let go.” Han Yuancheng warned in an ice-cold voice.

Qiu Chen smiled wickedly and pulled Han Yuancheng even closer. “Chengcheng, you know I’ve liked you for a long time. In the past you looked down on me without a second glance, devoting yourself entirely to serving Qiu Rui. But now I am the head of the Qiu family — you’d do well to comply obediently. I’m not one who enjoys using force, but I don’t mind resorting to it.”

Han Yuancheng stared coldly at the self-satisfied smile on the man’s face, his teeth clenched tight. “Get your filthy hands off me, or don’t blame me for being ungracious.”

“Chengcheng, you’re even more interesting when you make threats. I—” Qiu Chen’s playful expression turned to sudden terror in an instant. The cold, hard sensation pressed against his lower back made him release his grip immediately. He stepped back several paces and said, “Chengcheng, calm down. Don’t go waving guns around — that’s no way to keep a friendship.”

Seeing that he had nothing to gain today, Qiu Chen let out a cold snort. “Han Yuancheng, I’m only letting you point a gun at me because I like you. Anyone else would already be wishing they were dead. Don’t refuse a toast only to drink a forfeit — don’t throw away what’s given to you. After everything Qiu Rui did with you, you want to play the virtuous maiden in front of me?”

Han Yuancheng suppressed the urge to put a bullet through the man in front of him and let a single word fall coldly through his teeth. “Get. Out.”

Qiu Chen stormed out, slamming the door behind him. Han Yuancheng slumped weakly against the wall and murmured, “Qiu Rui, what on earth has happened to you? What are you trying to have this man tell me?”
