IMGH Chapter 56
by syl_beeI’ll Help You Win Him Over
Jiang Yi was so furious he ground his back teeth together. He set down his chopsticks and leaned closer to Chen Yuhe, lowering his voice. “My dear little lady, what exactly do you want?”
Chen Yuhe blinked, looking genuinely confused. “Why can’t I understand what you’re saying?”
Keep pretending, go ahead and pretend! Jiang Yi was seething inside, but he didn’t dare offend Chen Yuhe. He had no choice but to put on a pitiful face and plead. “Didn’t we already sort everything out between us? You know I like Qiu Rui. Please, just stop stirring up trouble here!”
Chen Yuhe narrowed her eyes, her expression carrying a hint of cold sharpness. “It’s rare for me to actually like someone, and it turns out he’s gay. How do you expect me to just swallow that?”
Jiang Yi was drowning in regret. This is exactly why you should never get tangled up with women — they’re nothing but trouble.
He gritted his teeth and said bluntly, “Fine, just say it. What’s it going to take for you to swallow it?”
Chen Yuhe stroked her chin, her gaze sweeping back and forth over Jiang Yi.
Being stared at like that made Jiang Yi deeply uncomfortable, as though an infrared scanner had passed over every inch of him, inside and out.
He crossed his arms over his chest in alarm. “You… what are you trying to do? I… I’ll have you know, I’m not the type to sell myself out!”
Chen Yuhe gave a light scoff. “What are you thinking? Even if you wanted to, I wouldn’t be interested. I’m just trying to figure out what makes you think someone like you deserves to be with my BOSS.”
“A broke nobody fantasizing about landing a rich, handsome catch — you really are a toad dreaming of eating swan meat. Completely delusional!” Chen Yuhe rolled her eyes dismissively.
Being looked down on like that was more than Jiang Yi could take. He jumped to his feet indignantly. “What does a little girl like you know? Looks matter, sure, but what matters most is having a sincere heart!”
He thumped his chest. “A heart — you know what that is, right?”
Chen Yuhe rolled her eyes. “Who doesn’t have a heart? You’d be dead without one.”
“This is exactly why I say you’ve never been in a relationship — you just don’t get it!” Jiang Yi shot Chen Yuhe a contemptuous sideways glance. “Can you call fake feelings a true heart? Can you call playing the field a true heart? I can guarantee that in this lifetime, I will only ever like my Rui’er — and no one else!”
Qiu Rui had never met anyone this shameless. Even the ancient city walls would feel inferior by comparison.
His face turned iron-grey as he forced himself to tune out the man’s absurdly passionate declaration. Qiu Rui tightened his already-clenched fist a little more, straining to suppress the rage threatening to erupt.
Chen Yuhe pressed her hand to her forehead with a quiet sigh. He seemed so reliable any other time — why did he completely lose all self-control the moment Qiu Rui came up?
It was only after Jiang Yi finished his outburst that he realized something was off. He trailed off awkwardly, stealing several glances toward the bedroom. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. He let out two dry laughs. “Yuhe, let’s eat, let’s eat!”
Chen Yuhe was speechless. How on earth had she developed feelings for such an utterly unreliable man?
As much as she lamented it, Chen Yuhe still made up her mind to help Jiang Yi.
“Since you like him, let me help you go after him!”
Jiang Yi stared at Chen Yuhe in astonishment as she suddenly lit up with enthusiasm. After a brief, dazed pause, he smiled lightly. “How are you going to help me? You’d only make things worse.”
“Says who? You’re underestimating me!” Chen Yuhe pulled a displeased face, offended at being looked down upon.
“Then what’s your plan? And don’t say pretending to be close to make him jealous on purpose. That’s way too clichéd, and besides, it won’t work on him anyway!”
Seeing her supposedly brilliant plan dismissed so thoroughly by Jiang Yi, Chen Yuhe deflated like a punctured ball, her face falling. “You’re so annoying. Way to crush someone’s spirit!”
“Stop worrying about my business!” Jiang Yi went back to eating, while Chen Yuhe sat with her head lowered, racking her brain for ideas.
She refused to believe that tactics tried and tested in novels and dramas a hundred times over would somehow fail on her BOSS.
He was cold, sure. But even a block of ice could be thawed by warmth — let alone a living, breathing person.
Everyone had emotions and desires. Given time and the right conditions, feelings and love would naturally stir.
Use the right approach, and no matter how cold and guarded someone was, you could still set their heart flowing like a river rushing eastward in spring.
Chen Yuhe was a woman of action — once she decided to move, she moved, with no dragging her feet.
She shifted her seat until she was right beside Jiang Yi, then leaned close to his ear and murmured, “Don’t jump to conclusions before you’ve even tried my method. If I manage to help you win him over, how are you going to thank me?”
Jiang Yi gave a scornful smile. “Little girl, worry about yourself. Don’t bother with my business. I’m a man — when it comes to winning over the person I want, I never let someone else do it for me.”
Chen Yuhe’s feisty streak flared up, and she jutted out her chin stubbornly. “Well, I’m going to meddle anyway!”
“Why are you so invested in my affairs?” Jiang Yi leaned forward and looked at her, his eyes curving into a smile as he gazed at Chen Yuhe. “Looks like your big brother here has more charm than people give him credit for!”
Jiang Yi gave his hair a theatrical toss and shot Chen Yuhe a roguish, raised-eyebrow grin.
In that moment, Chen Yuhe suddenly noticed that Jiang Yi’s smile had a way of drawing people in — the kind that made you sink without even realizing it. Her heart thumped wildly, and her cheeks flushed crimson before she even knew what was happening.
By the time she came back to her senses, the man had already gathered up the dishes and carried them into the kitchen.
That brief moment of losing herself left Chen Yuhe thoroughly irritated. The little devil inside her stirred awake.
She looked at the wall between the bedroom and the living room, and a cunning, wicked smile spread across her face.
