TDFM Chapter 109
Wish Power Pearl
Shi Feijia led Yun Qing and the others to Junzhong Hall.
She brewed a pot of tea. Since Yun Qing and the others were all juniors, how could they let her pour the tea? Fu Xue, being the youngest, picked up the teapot and poured a bowl for each person, then everyone sat down.
“Everything, all of it, must be told starting from when Nuwa created humanity. Tell me, why did Nuwa create humans?”
Fu Xue said, “Of course it was because the great goddess Nuwa hoped this world would become more lively.”
The others said nothing, naturally accepting this answer. Regarding the reason for Nuwa’s creation of humanity, this was basically the common explanation in the mortal world.
Shi Feijia shook her head.
Fu Xue then asked in confusion, “If it wasn’t this reason, then what was it?”
“Any group, whether human, demon, immortal, or deity, or even the flowers, birds, fish, insects, and wild grass we usually see—as long as they are living beings, the most important thing in their entire existence is to survive.
Not only to survive themselves, but also to ensure their entire race continues. In this regard, there are no exceptions in the world—deities are the same.”
“So, Nuwa’s reason for creating humans was to hope that the deities would continue to exist?”
“Yes. Back then, Nuwa foresaw the weakening of spiritual energy and the extinction of the divine race. This extinction was unavoidable—no matter how powerful the deities were, they could not resist the Heavenly Dao. In fact, the more powerful they were, the faster their extinction came.”
Since it could not be avoided, another path had to be found.
So Nuwa created humanity. Her purpose was simply to hope that through another form, the divine race could continue to exist.
As the continuation of the divine race, humanity not only looked identical to the deities, but their soul composition was also basically the same, possessing all three souls and seven spirits.
To today’s human race, having three souls and seven spirits was nothing unusual—lacking souls or spirits would be abnormal. But actually, when heaven and earth first separated, very few living beings in this world had such complex souls.
Except for the divine race and human race, many living beings gradually absorbed the essence of heaven and earth through constant reincarnation over time, nurturing complex souls bit by bit. This process was extremely long.
Only after nurturing complete three souls and seven spirits could beings have the opportunity to reincarnate as humans in the cycle of rebirth. Moreover, all living beings other than humans could only possibly cultivate human form after their three souls and seven spirits were complete.
Naturally, the human race and divine race could not be completely identical. To make the human race no longer dependent on spiritual energy, Nuwa had to greatly weaken humanity’s body and souls (mainly the heaven and earth souls), making humans more adapted to this world.
As a result, humanity’s power became very weak. And she worried that the weak human race would fall apart in this cruel world, so she strengthened the ghost essence, which people later called the “human soul.”
The human soul governs desire.
Human life was a life dominated by desire. Human courage, greed, love and hate, nobility, baseness… everything began with powerful desire.
Perhaps desire would taint our lives, but powerful desire also brought us a powerful will to live, and this will was the key to humanity’s continuation.
After all, staying alive was the foundation for humanity’s upward exploration.
Therefore, in ancient times, when natural disasters raged and fierce beasts roamed, the weak human race still carved out their own path in such a world. Though difficult, though they paid an enormous price, humanity ultimately continued to exist.
Of course, this was inseparable from divine protection. Without the deities, humanity would have paid ten or a hundred times the price.
In the eyes of the divine race, humans were their children, their people. Therefore, every deity did their utmost to protect humanity, just like protecting their own children.
The divine race was like humanity’s mother.
The children were growing, while the powerful and benevolent mother could not escape the fate of weakness and extinction.
Before each deity departed, they instructed the other deities to protect the fragile human race.
Until only the last deity remained in this world—also the weakest deity.
Her name was Xi.
Xi was born when the morning light first rose, hence her name.
If Xi stood before you and no one told you she was a deity, you would surely think she was just an ordinary human woman, perhaps gentler than most women, like the warm morning sunlight shining on a person—nothing more.
Thanks to her own weakness, Xi survived longer than all other deities. When most deities had successively perished and were gradually forgotten in the torrent of time, Xi miraculously lived year after year.
As the last deity in the world, she was inevitably lonely, so Xi often walked in the mortal realm. She was curious about many things in the mortal world, and the place she appeared most often was Shenle Valley.
Although many musical instruments were created by the divine race, and divine music was vast, profound, and deeply meaningful, Xi had to admit that humanity’s powerful desires gave birth to complex emotions, and the music brewed through such complex emotions was more graceful, more varied, and in some ways, more pleasant to hear.
Xi’s attitude toward humanity was also different from the previous deities. It wasn’t like treating her own children or subjects, but more like treating friends. She didn’t like hearing the Shenle clan people call her “Shen Xi,” preferring everyone to call her by her name directly.
Gradually, the Shenle clan people had become accustomed to calling her by name directly. Moreover, no one knew who started it, but if someone actively proposed hoping to touch her face to remember her appearance, she would readily agree.
When Shi Feijia was born, she had even been held by Xi. In her childhood, she always respected Xi as an elder, but later as she gradually grew up, the two became quite compatible and became friends.
Friends naturally confided in each other. Shi Feijia often shared her troubles with Xi, such as how to avoid getting angry with a foolish younger brother, such as confusion encountered during cultivation, such as how to develop and strengthen the Way of Silence.
And such as how to refuse when being pursued by several young men of the same clan at the same time… there were many things. Naturally, she also learned of Xi’s troubles.
Actually, very, very long ago, Xi had her first trouble, when Shi Feijia hadn’t been born yet.
Xi’s first trouble was that she wasn’t powerful enough.
Of course, she also knew that if she were powerful enough, she might have been gone long ago. She understood the logic, but sometimes she inevitably felt regret. Because the mortal world was always full of disasters and difficulties, she hoped to gain more power to protect the fragile human race.
“What happened later? How did this worry of yours disappear?” The young Shi Feijia asked her at that time.
“Later on, I discovered that within my body, there was actually an additional power. This power changed every moment, and it grew stronger and stronger.”
“Wow? You gained new divine power?”
“It’s not divine power.”
“Then it’s immortal power?”
“Not immortal power either, though it’s similar.”
“What exactly is it? Tell me quickly!”
When exactly did this power begin to appear? Xi couldn’t say for certain.
She only knew that when she first discovered this power, she didn’t pay much attention to it because it was too weak—so weak as to be useless. However, as this power gradually grew, it caught her attention.
She discovered that this power came from the mortal realm.
More specifically, it came from humanity’s will.
Over the years, every time she “manifested” to help humanity, she gradually accumulated faith in the mortal world. Each person’s faith was a source of power, and the more devout the faith, the stronger this power became.
One person’s faith might seem insignificant, but when many people’s faith gathered together, it was like water drops forming an ocean. So when faith in her became more and more prosperous in the mortal world, these forces of faith converged into a considerable power.
Xi called this power “wish power,” meaning the power brought by people making wishes to her.
This power born from humanity’s will had basically the same nature as immortal power. Although it was inferior to divine power, it could still be used to protect humanity.
After Xi explained to Shi Feijia, she said, “So later I wasn’t so resistant to being called ‘Goddess Shen Xi’ by humanity. If it could give me power, they could even call me ‘Dog Egg.'”
Shi Feijia burst into laughter and said, “According to this, humanity could also cultivate by collecting wish power, right? Or those immortals could also establish faith to obtain wish power.”
“It’s not that simple,” Xi shook her head. “Faith requires a great deal to take shape. Ordinary people have limited power after all—even if they do good deeds for a lifetime, the accumulated wish power might only be a thread or two, which wouldn’t help much.
Immortals are in a better situation, but to form wish power comparable to their own immortal power, they would need to operate for many years, during which they would also neglect their own cultivation—it wouldn’t be worth it.”
The gradually increasing wish power compensated for Xi’s lack of divine power. Later, many times when Xi used humanity’s wish power to save humanity, when receiving humanity’s gratitude, she always had to say that they had saved themselves.
Unfortunately, no one took her words seriously. Sigh.
After many more years, probably during the time when she became friends with Shi Feijia, Xi had her second trouble.
Xi’s second trouble was: this wish power was really wonderful, but if one day she perished, the wish power in her body would dissipate along with her—wouldn’t that be a pity?
If only the wish power could be separated from her body independently.
Then even if she was gone, humanity could still use their own will to protect themselves. Goddess Shen Xi would only need to exist as a totem.
Xi thought to herself, this idea of mine is truly perfect.
She acted immediately.
She found a glass bead and, after several attempts, successfully stripped the wish power from her body and stored it in the glass bead.
She called this glass bead the “Wish Power Pearl.”
After making the Wish Power Pearl, Xi immediately showed it to Shi Feijia. “Try it, see if you can mobilize the power within.”
Shi Feijia held the heavy bead and carefully tried for a long time, but couldn’t find the method. Finally, she helplessly returned the bead to her, shaking her head:
“It doesn’t work. Didn’t you say wish power has similar properties to immortal power? It should probably require an immortal or deity to use it, right?”
“Hmm, or perhaps ordinary people who comprehend a certain Way could also use it?”
Shi Feijia asked curiously, “Comprehend what Way?”
Xi smiled, “I’m not clear. Wasn’t cultivation something you humans came up with? I don’t understand it at all.”
“Since wish power was discovered and used by you, why don’t you name this Way?”
Xi thought for a moment and said, “Then let’s name it after my sword—the Way of Compassion. What do you think?”
“Not bad. So how should one comprehend the Way of Compassion?”
“Who knows? Hahaha, we don’t even know if such a thing exists!”
Shi Feijia was also amused. She felt that whether the Way of Compassion existed or not seemed unimportant. However, there was one thing that was quite important—
“Xi, does your Wish Power Pearl have any incantation?”
“No, why?”
“Without an incantation, what if the Wish Power Pearl is lost and picked up by someone, or stolen by some immortal… wouldn’t that be inappropriate?”
“You’re right to remind me. How about this—I’ll modify it again so that in the future, no matter who it is, only those who have received my inheritance can use it.”
“This way it will be secure.”
